Nurturing Your Spirit: Simple Practices to Deepen Your Connection

Feb 28, 2025
Connect

I’m so glad you’re here. If you’ve been feeling the pull to deepen your connection with yourself and with spirit, know that you are in the right place. This week, I want to share simple but powerful practices that can help you feel more grounded, peaceful, and in tune with the world around you.

Whether you're brand new to meditation, journaling, or mindfulness, these practices are for everyone. All you need is an open heart and a willingness to try something new.

Meditation Magic: Finding Stillness in a Noisy World

Meditation is simply the practice of sitting quietly and paying attention to your breath, your thoughts, or even the silence itself. You don’t need to “empty your mind” or sit for hours to experience its benefits. It’s a tool that helps you feel more peaceful, focused, and connected to yourself.

Beginner-Friendly Meditation Tips:
🧘 Start Small: Try sitting in a quiet space for just 2–5 minutes at first. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and notice how your body feels. If your mind wanders (which is normal!), gently bring your focus back to your breath.

🧘 Use a Guided Meditation: If sitting in silence feels uncomfortable, try a guided meditation. These are audio recordings where someone gently leads you through relaxation and visualization exercises. There are many free options on YouTube or meditation apps.

🧘 Find a Comfortable Position: You don’t have to sit cross-legged on the floor! You can sit in a chair, lie down, or even take a slow walk while focusing on your breath.

🧘 Set an Intention: Before starting, think about what you want from your meditation. Maybe you'd like to feel calmer, gain clarity, or simply take a break from stress. Setting a simple intention helps you stay focused.

🧘 Be Kind to Yourself: Meditation isn’t about doing it “right.” It’s okay if your mind races or you feel restless. The practice itself is what matters, not perfection.

What do you notice when you take a few moments to sit in stillness? I’d love to hear about your experiences!

Journaling: A Sacred Practice to Connect with Spirit

Journaling isn’t just a way to process your thoughts and emotions. It can also be a beautiful tool to connect with spirit, track signs, and recognize synchronicities that are guiding you along your path. When you write, you open up a space where your inner voice, intuition, and the messages from the universe can flow more easily.

As you write, you may begin to notice patterns, symbols, or even unexpected insights that feel deeply meaningful. These are often the subtle ways spirit communicates with us, through thoughts, feelings, or experiences that seem to appear at just the right time.

Ways to Use Journaling to Connect with Spirit:
📖 Track Signs and Synchronicities: Spirit often speaks to us through signs - numbers, animal encounters, dreams, or even repeating thoughts. When you notice something unusual, write it down. Over time, you may see connections between these signs and the events in your life. For example:

  • Did you see the same number over and over this week? What does that number mean to you?
  • Did a certain animal cross your path? What might it symbolize for your journey right now?
  • Did you have a dream that felt particularly vivid or meaningful? What message might it hold?

📖 Ask Spirit for Guidance: Before you begin journaling, take a moment to quiet your mind and ask for guidance. You might say something like, “Spirit, I’m open to receiving your messages today. Please show me what I need to know.” As you write, let the words flow freely, and trust that the answers may come through.

📖 Record Your Intuitive Insights: Sometimes, when we write, our intuition speaks louder than our conscious thoughts. Pay attention to any unexpected ideas, feelings, or impressions that arise while you journal. These are often insights from spirit that are trying to reach you.

📖 Reflect on Your Emotional State: If you're feeling drawn to a particular person, situation, or place, explore why in your journal. Sometimes, spirit communicates through our emotions, guiding us toward areas of healing or growth.

📖 Journal Your Intentions: You can use your journal to set intentions for deeper spiritual connection. What do you hope to learn? What area of your life feels ready for change? Writing your intentions helps to align your energy and invite spirit’s support.

Journaling can become a sacred dialogue between you and spirit, a way to understand the subtle nudges that guide your life. Have you noticed any signs or synchronicities recently? Writing them down can help you connect the dots and gain clarity on your path.

Mindfulness: Bringing Peace into Your Everyday Life

Mindfulness is simply paying attention to the present moment. Many people spend their days thinking about the past or worrying about the future. Mindfulness helps bring focus back to right now, what you’re doing, how you feel, and what’s happening around you.

You don’t need to set aside extra time to be mindful. You can bring mindfulness into things you already do every day.

Easy Ways to Practice Mindfulness:
🌿 Breathe with Awareness: Take a deep breath in and notice how it feels. Hold it for a moment, then exhale slowly. Repeat a few times and notice if you feel calmer.

🌿 Eat Slowly: The next time you eat, pay attention to the flavors, textures, and smells of your food. Try to eat without distractions like TV or your phone.

🌿 Take a Mindful Walk: Go outside and focus on what you see, hear, and feel. For instance, the colors of the trees, the sound of birds, the sensation of the wind on your skin.

🌿 Pause Before Responding: Before reacting to a stressful situation, take a deep breath and pause for a moment. This helps you respond more thoughtfully instead of reacting on impulse.

🌿 Put Your Phone Away: Take a few minutes each day to step away from screens and simply be present with yourself or loved ones.

Mindfulness isn’t about stopping thoughts, it’s about noticing them without judgment and coming back to the present. What small ways can you bring mindfulness into your day?

Thank You for Being Here!

No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, know that it’s okay to take things one step at a time. There’s no rush, no “right” way to do it, only what feels meaningful to you.

I’d love to hear from you! Which of these practices are you most excited to try? Do you have any questions about meditation, journaling, or mindfulness?

Until next time, take a deep breath, be kind to yourself, and enjoy the journey.

With love,

Amy

When Anger Meets Grief
Hi friend,    For a long time, I was afraid of my own anger.    Grief has felt like a familiar companion. Constant and somewhat predictable. Anger felt dangerous. Unloving. Like a wildfire I couldn't control. I worried it would make me "too much," ot worse, that it would hurt the people I love.   But the more I've listened to it, the more I've come to understand: Anger is not the enemy of gr...
Grief and Boundaries: Saying Yes to Yourself When Others Don't
Dear Heart,    Sometimes grief doesn't come from death or ending. Sometimes it comes from the parts of ourselves we've silenced, softened, or surrendered just to be loved or safe.   This week on the blog, I'm exploring the deep connection between grief and boundaries. How the quiet ache beneath every "yes" we didn't mean holds wisdom, and how reclaiming our voice, our spaec, and our needs is i...
